I’m Allergic to Apples
This work is a reflection on chronic health issues and the many doctor’s appointments I have attended in an attempt to find answers. By carefully rendering a portrait of each of my medical providers at the time, I successfully got all the doctors “together in one room” - a goal that a fragmented healthcare system makes virtually impossible. The slow, deliberate process of hand embroidery provided a sense of control and intimacy in the face of a system that often feels disempowering and alienating.
I’m Allergic to Apples, 2013, hand embroidery on cotton, 24 frames, 5 x 3.5 inches each, approx. 36 x 40 in.
